IRS Extends Customer Service Call Hours

IRS Call Centers Open on Saturday

We’re in the home stretch of tax season and that generally means those last-minute filers are coming out of the woodwork to get their returns sent to the IRS in time. While this can be a logistics nightmare for tax prep offices, the IRS is ready to provide some much-needed help during crunch time.

Since the beginning of April is one of their highest call volume periods, the toll-free IRS customer service call center (800.829.1040) will be open on both April 8 and April 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the caller’s local time.

Anyone wishing to go to an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center and see a representative in person will need to make an appointment. Before going to a physical location, taxpayers who need help should call 844.545.5640; if the representative cannot answer the question over the phone, they can help schedule a face-to-face appointment.

Tax Deadline

Don’t forget: this year, the individual filing deadline is April 18, 2017 due to April 15 falling on a Saturday and the following business day, April 17, being an observed holiday in Washington D.C.

Taxpayers filing an extension will still need to make sure they have paid their owed tax by April 18, otherwise they may owe interest.
